Today I'm making a Solid Sugar Scrub. It's a combination of a sugar scrub and, soap. I like this method better than regular scrubs that you have to go back and wash off usually because there's too much oil or, if I'm just in a rush and want to scrub quickly...it's less messy and half the time.
Items you will need:
- Melt and pour soap of your choice.
- Sweet almond oil
- Sugar
- F/O or E/O of your choice
- Soap Mold
- Digital Scale
- Knife
This is to make a gentle solid scrub bar.
Take your melt and pour soap, using your knife cut into cubes (be careful, cut on a solid, stable surface. Cut slowly!!)
Place your microwave safe bowl on your scale. Press the tare button so it turns to 0. Place the soap in until, your scale reads 3.0 oz.
Place in the microwave for 30 second intervals, until melted.
Place back on the scale, press tare. Take your sweet almond oil and slowly pour until the scale reads 2.0 oz ( I work in my basement and its usually cold so, if you work in a colder place, I recommend measuring your oil separately and, heating it very little. Otherwise when you pour it into your melted soap, the soap hardens a little and, needs to be re-heated!)
Add your colorant
Add your F/O or E/O for 3oz of soap you'll need .5mL no more than .8mL. I use these dispossable 3mL droppers that have indicators on them.
Mix this all very well. You'll probably have to re-heat this again before you add your sugar. Especially if you're working in a colder place.
Place a 2nd heat safe container on your scale, press tare. Measure 3oz of sugar. (Regualr household sugar works fine)
Now make sure your mold is ready! Re-heat your soap mixture if needed and make sure everything is fully incorporated. (Some of the oil will still be on top, this is fine)
Pour your sugar into your soap mix.. Stir for the 3oz sugar mix. It will gel a little bit but not enough where you need to pour into your mold immediately. Mix well and pour!
This recipe is the same for the more exfoliant solid scrub bar. The difference is the amount of sugar used.
For this you'll use 6oz of sugar now this you need to mix and pour really fast. It sets up quickly! I recommend making sure your soap mix is hot!! If you do need to heat your mix after you've added your sugar its fine.. Just microwave for 30 seconds, mix and pour.
Enjoy!!
The yellow (Iced Pineapple) are the gentle scrubs, the pink (Mandarin Plum) are the regular scrubs!
I use the milder scrub on my son. He has skin like I do on his legs, so it gently exfoliates his skin smooth the way it should be. It can also be used on more sensative skin.
This seems pretty simple, I like it. I'm sure I would still find a way to mess it up, but oh well. I'm sure both the gentle and regular work great
